Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 28 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on J.R. Campbell St. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an outside rubbish fire on Davenport Street where they found a small pile of clothes on fire, which they extinguished.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Hanson Drive, where they found light gray smoke upon arrival. They found a small fire in the cabinets above the stove which they extinguished using water from the sink. The ventilated the structure checked for fire extension.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on South Lee Street.
• Firefighters responded to Church Street to a report of lines down. They found a cable or phone line lying across a residential lawn, but no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on at a business on Tripp Street where a motorist attempted to pull away from a gas pump with the fuel nozzle still inside the vehicle. The face board of the pump had been torn off but was no leaking fuel and no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to vehicle fire on Waitsman Drive where they found a four-door car fully in flames in the passenger compartment. They extinguished the fire and checked for hot spots and extension. No fire was found in the engine compartment.
• Firefighters responded to Lonnie Lane at the request of the Americus Police Department where they were needed to assist in retrieving an occupant’s pocketbook and other belongings from the roof. The firefighters used a ladder and retrieved the items.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on West Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to a East Forsyth Street where a vehicle had struck a gas line causing a natural gas leak. Traffic was blocked until the gas department shut down the line.

• Brenda Williams, 55, of 7015 Ga. Highway 329 West, Montezuma is charged with speeding.
• Matthew C. Williams, 18, of 511 Harvey Circle, Ellaville is charged with speeding (85 mph in a 55 zone).
• Ronnie L. Williams. 31, of 131-D Howell St., Leslie is charged with passing in a no-passing zone.

• Steven W. Vickers, 28, of Cataula is charged with probation violation, and was jailed.
