Boy Scouts have annual banquet

TIFTON — The Scout Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which serves over 2,900 scouts in 28 South Georgia counties including Sumter County, held its annual banquet recently in Tifton.
At the banquet, the 2015 Eagle Scout class of 53 young men was recognized individually by J. Michael Greene, South Georgia Council’s National Eagle Scout Association chairman, and, the Eagle class photo was taken which continues a tradition that dates back to 1951 Eagle class.
The young men in the 2015 Eagle Class from Sumter County are Andrew B. McDonald, Kerman Goodin, Tyler James Pepito and Charles Hale Kinnamon from Troop 26 in Americus; Chandler Colton Diem and William Hoyt Gurley from Troop 21 in Americus; and, Mycah S. Jones from Troop 226 in Americus.

The Council also presented its annual Silver Beaver awards to Margaret Halbrook of Dawson and Stephen Waddell of Albany. The Silver Beaver award is the highest award a council may bestow upon a volunteer and a council may only award a very limited number each year. Since the inception of the Silver Beaver award in 1931,  the South Georgia Council has only awarded 335 such awards.
