Train-car accident results in no injuries, charges

AMERICUS — According to a press release from the Americus Police Department, an accident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. Friday at East Hill Street and Elm Avenue involving a passenger car and a SAM Shortline Train.
The release says the investigation indicates the passenger car was crossing the train tracks when the driver stopped on the tracks and began to back up. The vehicle was struck by the train on the left front bumper causing minor damage to the vehicle.
The release says there was no damage to the train or injuries to any passengers. No charges were filed against the driver of the car.
