Fourth Annual Home Run 10k, 5k, and Fun Run raises over $10,000 for Methodist Youth Home

AMERICUS – The fourth Annual Home Run 10k, 5k, and one mile Fun Run which was held on June 4. The event raised over $10,000 for the girls of The Methodist Home for Children and Youth in Americus.
Nearly 75 participants came out to the race in support of The Methodist Home, whose mission is to restore childhoods and strengthen families. The Americus campus serves girls ages 13-17.
This event is held annually in memory of Jay Williams, a friend of The Methodist Home.
Travis Kelly and Rebecca Ferguson, auxiliary member, continue to keep Jay’s legacy alive by planning this annual event with the help of auxiliary board members and volunteers.
In a recent press release, Judy Tott, head of the auxiliary board, said, “We continue to be amazed at the response of the citizens of Americus and surrounding communities to make our fundraising event such a great success. We are so grateful for your prayers and support that allow our girls to have a safe haven that restores childhoods and strengthens families.
“The auxiliary board is thankful for the hard work and support of all of the volunteers and sponsors who helped with this year’s event. Many organizations, including Sumter Co. DFCS, contributed to help make the race successful.”

The funds from the race will benefit the teenage girls who live at The Methodist Home in Americus, offering them new experiences and opportunities. Money from last year’s race has been used for multiple projects at The Home including: paving the driveway, updating the security system, placing lights in the parking lot for safety, and adding a game room to the cottage.
After last year’s race, the girls enjoyed family dinners out as well as movie nights and were able to participate in dance lessons, JROTC, basketball games, and track events. The auxiliary also purchased dresses for special dance events and winter coats and boots in December.
“The money we raise every year truly helps us to provide for our girls and ensures they receive more love and care with us than they would anywhere other than with family,” said Tasha White, Office Manager at The Methodist Home in Americus.
