Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to eight calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a smoke scare at West Church and Forrest streets, but nothing was found except a barbecue grill.
• Firefighters responded to Pecan Drive where they removed a tree which had fallen on a vehicle and blocked the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Windsor Hotel, 125 E. Lamar St. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a grass fire at East Jefferson Street and Lorraine Avenue. They found a 10’ x 10’ area of pine needles and grass burning, and extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Adderton Street.

• James M. Peavy, 21, of 226 Brown St., Americus is charged with knowingly driving motor vehicle on suspended, canceled or revoked registration, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and was released on bond.
• Woodrow A. Terry, 36, of 446 Dixon Drive, Ellaville is charged with driving while license is suspended or revoked, speeding, DUI and obstruction of law enforcement officer, and was jailed.

• Rebecca L. Horne, 32, of 551 Henry Hart Road, Leslie is charged with driving under the influence of multiple substances, and was released on bond.
• Vincent E. Leverett, 46, of Columbus is charged with driving under the influence of multiple substances, and was released on bond.
• William R. McIlwraith, 51, of 351 Lowery Road, Ellaville is charged with DUI, and was jailed.

• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Lane Store Road, caused by a malfunction.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on North Hunter Drive, caused by a malfunction.
• Firefighters extinguished a grass fire on Arch Helms Road.
• Firefighters responded to a grass fire in the woods on Brady Road.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Lane Store Road. Nothing was found.

• Firefighters stood by at South Georgia Technical College during the annual meeting of Sumter EMC.
• Firefighters stood by on U.S. Highway 280 West for a fireworks show.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Brady and Mask roads.

• Tony M. Davis, 29, of Mount Vernon, Ga., is charged with aggravated assault, and was released on bond.
• Chauncey N. Goodwin, 20, of 133 Hosanna Circle, Americus is charged with aggravated assault, possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, reckless conduct and probation violation, and was jailed.
• Omar G. Hernandez, 28, of 485 Arch Helms Road, Americus is charged with driving while unlicensed and expired or no registration or title, and was released on bond.
• Charlie F. Howzine, 40, of 840 Railroad St., Lot 2, Americus is charged with driving while license is suspended or revoked, and was jailed.
