AMERICUS — Ruthann Florence Toomey Forrest, age 68, of 124 Mockingbird Drive, died Thursday, June 16, 2016, at her residence.  A native of Jefferson City, Tenn., she was born Sept. 1, 1947, the daughter of the late Rev. Glenn Alfred and Rose Shell Toomey. Ruthann attended and graduated High School at Harrison Chilhowie Christian Academy in Seymour, Tenn. She graduated from Knoxville Business College with an associate degree in office business. She worked years as secretary for First Baptist, Grace Baptist and Pleasant View churches in Morristown, Tenn. She served two terms on the Tennessee Baptist Association and served two years as a board member for the Tennessee Children’s Homes. She played the piano and was the pianist for Liberty Baptist Church in Ashland, Ala., for an interim time but enjoyed the duet playing with her sister when they would meet. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Americus, Ga., and was a faithful servant of the Lord since she was just seven years old. She was a choir member most of her years and enjoyed singing and playing gospel music. She loved her children and grandchildren and dedicated her life to providing for them the best she could. She enjoyed traveling, flea market shopping and yard sales where a bargain could be found. She collected years of treasures each having special meaning for a vacation, activity or special recognition. She was an amateur photographer. She enjoyed taking pictures of scenery, family and unique items. She collected and stored these photos in scrap books continuing the genealogy and history of her family and friends. If you were around Ruthann, you have had your picture taken. She will be missed by family and friends and will be remembered for her courageous fight with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Myers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, at Andersonville National Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 190 Upper River Road, Americus GA 31709.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald “Bud” Lee Forrest of Americus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Hollie Enniss-Poe of St. George, Utah, and Daniel and Carrie Taylor Poe of Americus; a sister, Glenora Hall of White Pine, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Ben, Taylor, Jax, Katelyn and Peyton Poe; one niece, Sara McCowan of Memphis, Tenn.; three nephews, Glenn Hall of White Pine, Tenn., John Toomey of Morristown, Tenn., and Scott Toomey of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and many cousins in the Toomey and Shell family which she cherished and enjoyed. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Toomey.
