AMERICUS — Last month, more than 200 women attended Phoebe Sumter Medical Center’s (PSMC) annual Women’s Health Conference, which was held at the Student Success Center on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University.
This year’s event, which focused on a better way to well, offered participants a number of health screenings, such as blood pressure, BMI, and diabetes, and the opportunity to work up a sweat by participating in Zumba and yoga demonstrations.

Participants also heard from Ashley Patterson, registered dietitian at Phoebe Sumter, who provided tips on healthy eating and Patricia Fennessy, MD, who spoke about making healthy lifestyle decisions.
A new addition to the conference this year was a fashion show, which featured local cancer survivors. Each survivor walked the runway and told her story of battling the disease.
The health conference ended with a powerful presentation by keynote speaker Colette Jenkins, founder of Chosen to Conquer Inc. Jenkins spoke about conquering your fears, her past trials with multiple sclerosis and how it led her to a path to become an advocate for women facing health issues.
