MARIETTA — Mr. Walter Bob Chappell, age 85, of 1394 Ga. Highway 308, Americus, passed away June 21, 2016, at Tranquility Hospice in Marietta, Georgia. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016, in the chapel of Hebron Baptist Church, 1951 Ga. Highway 49 South, Americus. The Rev. Ron Perry will officiate and Jimmy Melvin will speak. Interment will follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 23 in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral Services. Family will also receive friends at the residence located at 1394 Ga. Highway 308, Americus, Ga.
The following are asked to serve as active pallbearers: Jay Chappell, Jeff Kleckley, Brad Kleckley, Adam Clark, Josh Jones, and Greg Snider. Honorary pallbearers include Emory Smith, Gene Olive, and all active and inactive deacons of Hebron Baptist Church.
Mr. Walter Bob Chappell was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Americus, Georgia. He was retired from the Department of Transportation. He also served 20 years in the National Guard. He also worked as a resident engineer rebuilding bridges after the flood of 1994. After retirement he also substituted as a rural mail carrier. He was a member and inactive deacon of Hebron Baptist Church, where he showed his love for children by keeping the church nursery.
Mr. Walter Bob Chappell was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. William Armstid Chappell and Mrs. Ruth Overstreet Chappell and one brother, Carl Chappell. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Betty Jane Harbuck Chappell; daughter Gayle Chappell Clark and her husband John Clark of Statesboro, Ga.; and son William Scott Chappell and his wife Mary Chappell of Atlanta, Ga.
Other survivors include one sister, Sharon Chappell Kleckley of Suwanee, Ga.; one brother, Jack Chappell and his wife Delores Chappell of Americus, Ga.; four grandchildren: Kendall Chappell, Connor Chappell, Adam Clark, and Ashleigh Clark Jones, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
