AMERICUS — Mrs. Edith Ettinne Musselwhite Athon passed away Thursday evening, June 23, 2016, at her home.
Funeral services are planned for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at Central Baptist Church.
Mrs. Athon was born Aug. 13, 1929, to the late Ephraim and Lola Baker Musselwhite in Sarasota, Florida.
She married the love of her life, Terrell Athon, on Feb. 15, 1947. They celebrated 69 1/2 years together this year.
She worked at Manhattan Shirt Co., and then for Dr. Henry Teaford as his receptionist. She retired from the State of Georgia Substance Abuse Office.
Mrs. Athon was a member of Central Baptist Church where she was active in church activities. She played the piano in her Sunday school department for many years until her health caused her to stop. She was in the adult choir and enjoyed traveling with the Senior Adult group.
In addition to her husband, Terrell Athon, survivors include two daughters: Linda (Neil) Hagerson, and Judy Tanner; one son, Ronnie (Pam) Athon; six grandchildren: Tracey Hagerson, Chris (Katy) Hagerson, Paige Selph, Zack (Tabitha) Tanner, Josh (April) Athon, and Jana (Jeremy) Cronemyer; 13  great-grandchildren: Emily and Darden Campbell, Greer and Hays Hagerson, Chase and Ryan Selph, Trenton and Madison Tanner, Addison and Eli Cronemyer, Megan Fowler, and Isabella and Olivia Athon; and two brothers: Jimmy Musselwhite and Nathaniel (Margie) Musselwhite.
