Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 25 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to the report of a structure fire on McCoy Street and were advised the structure had been struck by fire. Upon investigation, they found that lightning had struck the back of the house and the exterior panel boxes. The found a charred receptacle in an interior room and tripped breakers and some charred wiring. No other hazards were found but the occupants were advised to stay elsewhere overnight and the American Red Cross was advised.
• Firefighters responded to Barbara Battle Way to a report of a cat trapped in a door. They found a cat struck between the driver side door and quarter panel of a car. They removed the cat.
• Firefighters responded to Rose Avenue to an unknown problem. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Wheatley Street, which was accidentally activated.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Cherokee Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on West Lamar Street, which was activated due to dust from a vacuum cleaner.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Martin Marietta Street activated by workers shaving concrete.
• Firefighters responded to a cooking fire on Knollwood Drive. The occupant advised the fire was contained to the pot and put itself out.
• Firefighters responded to West Lamar Street to a report of a possible structure fire. Occupants said they smelled something burning but nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to North Lee Street where they removed a telephone or cable wire from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to Eastview Circle to a report of small outside fire that had been extinguished. Someone had poured gasoline into an open pipe in the sewer system and lighted it. Fumes ignited into an explosion which blew a man hole cover down the line to lift off the hole and land about three feet to the side. The Americus Police Department was called in to investigate.
• Firefighters responded to removed a tree limb blocking the roadway on Jackson Avenue.
• Firefighters responded to Bayhill Drive where a large tree limb had fallen and broken a power line pole.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Staley Middle School building, 915 N. Lee St. It was accidentally set.
• Firefighters responded to Armory and Allmon drives there a tree limb had fallen and damaged a power line.
• Firefighters responded to Broadhurst Street to assist Americus Police with forcible entry into a structure for medical evaluation.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke detector alarm on Hickory Drive, activated by cooking.
• Firefighters responded to West Forsyth and North Hampton streets to a report of a cable line down.
• Firefighters responded to Plantation Ridge Drive to a report of a burning smell in the office. After investigation they found a problem with a light ballast.
• Firefighters responded to Crawford Street to a report of a possible structure fire. They found a gas pump control module had shorted out.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Rogers Street, which was activated by accident.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West Lester Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Lamar Street and Ga. Highway 27.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at West Church and Forrest streets.
• Firefighters responded to Spring Street to a report of a dumpster fire. They found visible flames and smoke coming from a dumpster on the back wall of the building, and extinguished it.
• Firefighters responded to Mallon Drive to remove a tree that was blocking a driveway and both lanes of traffic.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Felder Street and Varsity Drive.

• Reginald Mathis, 50, of 205 Railroad St., Americus is charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.
• Jeremy C. Mizell, 22, of 303 E. Dodson St., Americus is charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
• William C. Moore III, 18, of 927 Ridge St., Americus is charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
• Kristen Muff, 25, of 140 Lonnie Lane, Apt. 240, Americus is charged with assault/battery.
• Riyod O. Reddick, 21, of 103-A Norman Cole St., Americus was arrested in a bench warrant and is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, illegal possession of a controlled substance, felony theft by taking, possession of a firearm by a felon, probation violation, and was jailed.
• Shalandrea S. Singleton, 22, of 109 Waitsman Drive, Americus was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Dooly County for failure to appear in court, and was released on Dooly County authorities.

• Kadarius M. Washington, 17, of 151-B Cherokee St., Americus is charged with colliding with fixed object, reckless driving, child restraint violation and two counts of seat belt violation.
