AMERICUS — Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, the local ministry located at 606 McGarrah St., is in the process of doing some much needed renovations, according to its executive director, Sonny Pinckard.
The ministry, founded three years ago by Pinckard and his wife Ginger, is housed in a building, which the organization has since paid for, that has more space than they originally thought they would need. However, since its inception, the number of clients served has grown — to about 780 families that receive food each month. The organization’s goal is to increase the amount of food for each family each month, but that will require more space. The Harvest of Hope board has approved $40,000 for renovations to its existing building.
The renovations include a new, covered side entrance which will help clients enter and exit the building when picking up their food each month. They will acquire an additional walk-in freezer to hold more meat and frozen items. Additional storage space will also be created for canned and dry goods.
Harvest of Hope needs help with its renovation project and monetary donations are appreciated. Volunteers are also needed to package and help distribute the foods.
