AMERICUS — Approximately, 15 community leaders joined more than 12 teenage boys at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center’s annual Ties That Bind luncheon, held June 14 at the hospital’s Wellness and Education Center.
“We can’t thank all of the community leaders enough for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and support this event,” said Marcus Johnson, director of community relations & customer service at Phoebe Sumter. “The kids were able to see men of all professions at one time and they were there just for them — that is something that they will remember. Our kids are important and we want to do everything we can to support them as they become the future leaders of our community.”
The luncheon, held in conjunction with Men’s Health Week, pairs local male leaders with young men whose fathers are absent from their lives. The community leaders not only shared a meal with the young men, but also a tie — a symbol of respect and distinction. Local dignitaries that attended the event include Americus Mayor Barry Blount, Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith, and local physician Malcolm Floyd, M.D.
