AMERICUS — Mr. Joseph Milton Hagerson passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, at his homeplace in Sumter County, where he was born 92 years ago.

Funeral services are planned for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, at Concord United Methodist Church, where he was the oldest member, having served 35 years as Sunday school superintendent and 50 years as song leader. The Rev. Gary Page and the Rev. Matt Avera will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hagerson Family Cemetery at Friendship.

The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers: Chris Hagerson, Kevin Hagerson, Jody Hagerson, Brad Hagerson, Chip Spann, and Chad Spann.

The family will receive friends on from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening, July 18, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.

A long-time Sumter County farmer, Mr. Hagerson was born Feb. 17, 1924, a son of the late Charlie Neil Hagerson and Vera Darden Hagerson. He was a member of M.B. Council Lodge No. 13, Free & Accepted Masons, and a longtime board member of Sumter Electric Membership Corporation.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Lou Williams Hagerson; their children: Neil (Linda) Hagerson and Boyd (Rene) Hagerson; grandchildren: Tracey Hagerson, Chris (Katye) Hagerson, Kevin Hagerson, Jody Hagerson, Brad (Cindy) Hagerson, Chip (Penny) Spann, and Chad (Tamara) Spann; great-grandchildren: Emily Campbell, Darden Campbell, Greer Hagerson, Hays Hagerson, Harper Hagerson, Tildon Hagerson, Gabe Spann, Charlie Spann, K.J. Spann, and Beckett Spann; and one brother, W.A. “Doc” Hagerson.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Hagerson Spann.
