Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle visit children,  grandchildren
On June 23, Dwight and Mary Ellen McCorkle left for Clermont, Florida to be with their grandson, Jeremiah Sawicky and his family while he was competing in the 11-year-old Junior Olympics.
Jeremiah ran in the 200-meter and the 400-meter races. He did his very best in his timing, but did not qualify for the finals in Texas.
They visited with the other family members — son Jonathan and wife Rosa and their other two sons, Mathew and Jonathan Sawicky. They also visited their other son, Rick and his wife Kelly Sawicky. They all stayed at the same hotel and had dinner together. Mary Ellen said they all enjoyed the pool at the hotel.
The McCorkles left Florida on June 26, heading to Silver Spring, Maryland, and visited with their daughter Melissa and her husband Nick Snyder and their two daughters Nellie and Harper Snyder. Dwight and Mary Ellen stayed with the granddaughters for a week.
They enjoyed visiting the charming downtown area, seeing movies, shopping, dining out and visiting a variety of parks with the girls.
The McCorkles came home on July 2, leaving the following day for Cairo, Georgia, where they visited Dwight’s uncle and his wife, Bryant and Dinah Collins. On July 3, the McCorkle and Collins families celebrated with a Fourth of July family get together, which included about 20 members of the Gilliard family which is Dinah Collins family. They served a delicious picnic meal with all the trimmings.
A special recognition and celebration was held for Billy McCorkle, who turned 80 years on July 17. To end this special event they had fireworks that night which really topped off this special celebration.
Mary Ellen said that she had driven them everywhere that they had gone from Florida to Maryland and back to Georgia. She said that she put 2,500 miles on her car in 12 days.
On July 16, Dwight and Mary Ellen will leave and go half-way and pick up the grandsons from Florida for a week’s vacation here. They always have a lot of fun and activities when they are here during the summers.

All of the food is prepared in the home economics kitchen at the Schley County High School.
This grant will provide a wide variety of social and life skills and allow students to adapt to normal lifestyle requirements. The grant was prepared and submitted by the Schley County Family Connection and John Greene.
