AMERICUS — Charles B. Snead, age 87, of Americus, Ga., originally from Red Oak, Ga., died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, July 19, 2016, in his home. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, July 22, 2016, at Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors.  Dr. Bryan Myers will officiate.

Mr. Charles B. Snead was born on Aug.16, 1928, in Atlanta, Ga., son of the late Charles Carmichael Snead and the late Alberta Steber Snead. “Buddy” was an accomplished and prolific artist, a professional musician adept in both classical and jazz performance, a dedicated and decorated naval officer, highly successful executive in the insurance industry, and most importantly a steadfast husband, wonderful father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather. He valued life and the human experience appreciating its expression through all forms of art and particularly as experienced through his many animal companions from all stages of his life all of whom shared a place in his extended family. As a man of wide diversity, he contributed to the world in a variety of ways and left a positive effect on all situations and those he touched. He was a member of the Southwest Christian Church in Atlanta, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Annetta Graydon Snead, of Americus; a daughter, Melanie Snead Mathis, of Americus; one son, Charles Graydon Snead and wife Angie, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one sister, Roberta Snead Wycokff and husband Harry, of Alexander City, Ala.; five grandchildren, Amanda Mathis Shemwell and her husband Foy, of Albany, Ga., Nathan William Mathis of Americus, Charles Stafford Snead, Joshua Lloyd Snead and Jacob Christopher Snead, all of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Mary William Shemwell and Graydon Harrison Shemwell, both of Albany, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Carl William Mathis Jr., and great-granddaughter Madeline Anne Wildes.
