AMERICUS — A local citizen wants to do something to bring her community together in the midst of all that is happening in the world.
Gail Wall of Americus is asking the public to join her in a “peaceful, prayerful gathering” at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Russell Thomas Jr. Public Safety Building in downtown Americus. Following prayers from the Rev. Chris Wooden, the Rev. Bud Womack and Col. Eric Bryant of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, participants will join hands and encircle the building to “show support for one another and for our law enforcement officers,” according to Wall.
“We need to come together as a community and show love and support for one another and for our law enforcement,” Wall said, stressing that this is not a protest.
Wall, who says she is not representing any organization, only herself as a local citizen, describes herself as someone who does not seek the limelight and is not comfortable speaking publicly.
“I do not want to be the center of attention,” she said. “I am just asking everyone in our community to come together in unity and support.”
