GSW’s Chamineak honored by GCAA

AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern State University men’s golfer Ethan Chamineak was recently named to the NCAA Division II PING All-America Third Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Chamineak capped off a very successful junior season with six Top-10 finishes in 11 events, four being in the top five, and placed eighth at the NCAA DII South/Southeast Regionals.
The Thomson, Ga., native tied for second at the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Championship, which is the highest individual finish at the conference tournament in Georgia Southwestern program history. Chamineak posted the lowest scoring average in the PBC this spring (72.3) and was named to the 2016 PBC All-Conference First Team and the PBC All-Tournament team.
Chamineak was also a semifinalist for the 2016 NCAA Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award and a member of the Division II PING All-Region Southeast Team.
Chamineak won the Hurricane Invitational in April and tied for second at the Full Moon BBQ Invite in Sept. where he tied the second-lowest individual 36-hole score in school history with a 137 (69-68).
GSW has placed five golfers on the All-America list over the past five seasons. Chamineak joins Nick Ward (2015), Nate Gahman (2013), Craig Gibson (2012) and JP Griffin (2012) as Hurricane golfers to receive the honor.
