On Friday, Interim President Charles Patterson, Ph.D., officially kicked off the new year with faculty and staff during the annual August Assembly.
“To say that I am excited for the upcoming year is an understatement,” remarked Patterson during his comments. “This marks our 110th year as a University serving the citizens of Georgia. In this 110 years, the University has gone through many transformations, starting out as the Third District Agricultural and Mechanical School in 1906 and emerging as a State University in 1996, 90 years later.”
Patterson went on to discuss the university’s strategic planning process. The new plan will take GSW through 2023. It’s four guiding themes are 1. Expanding High-Impact Teaching and Learning Experiences, 2. Transforming Campus Connections, 3. Cultivating Community Engagement with Intentionality, and 4. Promoting Enhanced Stewardship.
“Thank you to all of our hard working and dedicated faculty, staff and administrators,” Patterson said at the end of remarks. “We are emerging as a stronger and more visible Institution because of you. Together, we continue to chart the future of this great university.”
Classes began Wednesday, Aug. 17.
