The Knights of Columbus, Council 7113 of Americus recently presented a donation of $500 to Books for Sumter Children. The donation was from the 2016 Annual Golf Tournament held on May 7. Stanfield shared that Books for Sumter Children has provided 49,900 books to Sumter County Children age 0 – 5 since 2009. Approximately 1,100 children are registered in the program and receive a book each month delivered to their home by the US. Postal Service. Approximately ,1000 children have ‘graduated’ from our program since 2009. Registration cost $36 per year, per child if the parent can afford it, but free registration can be provided to those who cannot because of donations from the Knights of Columbus and other donors.
