ATLANTA — Benny Abner Whittle, age 73, of Americus, died at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016. A native of Dexter, he was born Feb.  13, 1943, the son of the late Emory and Gussie Whittle. Benny was the owner of Americus Heating and Air. He attended University of Georgia for his heating and air certification. He loved hunting, fishing and golf. Benny was a loving and devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews and was always dependable when needed by anyone. He loved life and was a jokester. Benny enjoyed time on the farm running his equipment and spending time with his animals. He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Taunton and Dr. Bryan Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the Lucy/June Plantation on Old Andersonville Road. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Weldon Childrens Fund at Citizens Bank of Americus.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, June Weldon Whittle of Americus; four sisters, Jo Ann Smith, Kay Holland, Sue Wicker (Luke) and Diane Lucas (Johnny); three brothers, Dale Whittle (Iris), Danny Whittle (Carol), Billy Whittle (Judy); and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mason Whittle and James Whittle.
