SGTC cosmetology holds hairstyling competition

Tovar, Lumpkin, Wodzinski take top honors

AMERICUS — The South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) cosmetology students recently showed off the skills they learned in the classroom in a hairstyling competition on SGTC’s Americus campus. SGTC cosmetology instructor Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie and adjunct instructors Airel Rolle and Robin Hardin coordinated the competition for their students.
The students styled models of their choice and got creative with innovative and interesting hairstyles. Judges for the competition used the international 30-point rating system to select the winners. The top three designers earned engraved commemorative plaques.
Gladys Tovar of DeSoto was the winner of the competition with a side-swept updo embellished with flower pins. Her model was Daisy Tovar. Elizabeth Lumpkin of Coleman earned second prize with curly updo with side braid for her model, Brooke Lumpkin. Third place went to Hanna Wodzinksi of Buena Vista with a funky faux-hawk for her model, Erin Wodzinski.
The fourth place winner of the competition was Tabetha Swanson of Buena Vista with model Tanisha Boyd. Alazhia Wade of Pitts took fifth place with her model, Abby Wade. The sixth place spot went to Crystal Thomas of Buena Vista with her model, Lashlanda White.
Other competitors and their models included Calandra Price of Buena Vista, model Aria Price; Alexxia Bacon of Americus, model Kalla Hayes; Cheslee Jones of Americus, model Kaylah Tyson; Quentavious Bell of Preston, model Miranda Hartage; Taylon McCalvin of Cordele, model Blair Perry; Blake Edgar of Parrott, model Kara Wainwright; Mattie Barrios of Americus, model Maty Barrios; Jacqueline Brimlow of Mauk, model Alexandra Brimlow; Elizabeth Moreles of Byromville, model Martha Moreles; Krystal Campbell of Americus, model Brinda Moody; Tracey White of Americus, model Sarah Williams; Morgan Hobbs of Vienna, model Cassie Cheek; and Fierra Riley of Americus, model Tiana Reese.
Judges for the competition included Meredith Owen of The Look in Americus, Alicia Bassett of Shear Heaven in Americus, and SGTC dual enrollment barbering instructor Adrienne Clayton.
