BUTLER — On Sept. 22 Americus-Sumter High School JROTC students traveled to Taylor County to participate in the first Raider Competition of the 2016-17 school year.
ASHS Raiders competed against seven other Southwest Georgia high schools and took home first place in a series of grueling physical tests.
The ASHS team won the “One-Rope Bridge” event with an incredible time of 1:16. In this event 10 cadets had to construct a one-rope bridge over a simulated 45-foot creek, use their bridge to cross the creek, then tear down the bridge.
They also competed in the “200-Yard Litter Carry” event, logging a time of only 46 seconds. In the litter carry event, five cadets had to tie a 90-pound “casualty” to a litter, then run 100 yards with the litter and two one-gallon gas cans before passing the load to another team who had to return to the start point.
The ASHS Raider Team is very pleased with their first-place finish at the Raider Competition.
