PLAINS — The Plains Bet
ter Hometown Program is hosting a book signing for its newly published cookbook, “Plains(s) and Simple,” at a reception from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Plains Community Center. It is open to the public.
Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter will be present to sign copies of the book and the reception fare features recipes in the book and will be prepared by women in Plains, said Ruth Sanders, director of the Plains Better Hometown Program.
The coffee table-size book features a wide variety of southern recipes and traditions that former President Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter have enjoyed throughout their lives. The recipes, all from Plains’ residents, have been tested, tried and enjoyed for many years. Divided into sections from appetizers to desserts, including sections on hunting and fishing and holidays all through the year, the book is illustrated with an abundance of beautiful photographs and whimsical stories about Plains.
“Plains(s) and Simple,” sponsored by Plains Better Hometown Program, was written by a committee composed of Sanders, Kim Fuller and Chuck Smith, along with a host of volunteers that includes a number of Plains’ best cooks, who prepared the recipes for photographing and page styling.
“We tried to capture small-town community life in the south,” said Sanders. “The book basically relates to all small towns across America.”
