Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 57 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Taylor Street. There was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to H2O Sports Manufacturing LLC on Martin Marietta Drive to a report of heavy smoke throughout a structure. Inside, the found a commercial dumpster smoldering. Fire used a forklift on the ground to remove the dumpster and extinguish the fire in it. They ventilated the building.
• Firefighters responded to Railroad Street to an alarm. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to tree blocking both lanes of traffic at Morris and Patton drives.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Lonnie Lane.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Linnie Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Industrial Boulevard where they found the pull station had accidentally been activated.
• Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide alarm on Douglas Circle. They ventilated the structure and advised occupant to contact the landlord.
• Firefighters responded to Walmart Supercenter, 1711 E. Lamar St., to a report of water flow and pump running. An employee told them they were aware of the problem and the system installer was to repair it.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at East Forsyth and Mayo streets.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Scott’s Jewelry, 210 W. Lamar St. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters stood by for a football game at Americus Sumter High School, 805 Harold Ave.
• Firefighters responded to Parker Street to a report of someone burning trash. They extinguished the small rubbish fire and advised home owners of the City’s no-burning policy.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a car fire on Felder Street. They extinguished the fire in the engine compartment and checked for hot spots in the interior.
• Firefighters responded to the area behind Americus Village shopping center to the report of a wild land fire. Inside the wood line they found a fire about 20’ x 20’ consisting of dead trees, pine needles and low lying growth, which was spreading. They made fire breaks and extinguished the fire and checked for hot spots. They responded again to the scene about six hours later to a report of fire again. Georgia Forestry was called in and the scene was left with them. About eight hours later, they responded to the same location again to a report of smoke in the area. Everything was under control. About 12 hours later, they were dispatched again and GFC still had the fire under control.
• Firefighters responded to Douglas Circle and Ridge Street where they removed a small tree from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on West Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to Felder Street to a report of a gasoline spill. They found a small gas leak under a parked vehicle. They used absorbent to soak up the gas from the roadway.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident in front of Station 3 on Crawford Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Frieda Lane. The alarm was activated by cooking and there was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on East Forsyth Street activated by low battery malfunction.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on North Dudley Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Wildwood Circle. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on Mayo Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke scare on Highland Drive. They found a light haze and smell of smoke in the area, but no fire.
• Firefighters responded to Ridge Street to a report of a power line down.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to Crawford Street to a report wires down. They found a cable line lying across the street, which they removed.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Davenport Street.
• Firefighters responded to Douglas Circle where a vehicle had struck a power pole which fell into the street. Georgia Power was notified.
• Firefighters responded to Douglas Circle to a report of an oil spill in the roadway. They found a large spill from the damaged transformer in the previous incident. Public Works was notified and they spread a tractor full sand onto the spill.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Westlake Circle. The resident advised he had been cooking bacon.
• Firefighters responded to Tripp and East Forsyth streets to a report of an oil spill. Nothing was found.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Barnum Drive.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Harrold Avenue, which was accidentally activated.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a power box smoking on Ridge Street. Georgia Power was notified.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Shirley Road due to a malfunction.
• Firefighters responded to traffic accident at South Lee Street and Country Club Drive.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at Snider Auto Care, 1016 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. No hazards were found.

• Jamie B. Harbuck, 29, of 210 Young’s Mill Road, Americus is charged with simple assault, and was jailed.
• Marshall D. Harris, 22, of 726 Beale St., Americus is charged with felony aggravated assault and possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, and was jailed.
• Christopher J. Mathews, 48, of 617 Barwick Road, Ellaville is charged with disorderly conduct.
