Bill McGowan, Democratic candidate for Georgia State House District 138, visited GSW recently where he spoke to Jason Berggren’s, Ph.D., American government class, McGowan about his years of political service, including his time as mayor of Americus and as Sumter County tax commissioner. He answered students’ questions on a variety of subjects: Amendment 1, education, health care, transportation, ‘campus carry’ gun legislation, medical marijuana, and immigration. He was also asked about why he is interested in politics and why he is running for office. McGowan graduated from Georgia Southwestern in 1976, with a degree in political science.
