Spence Family holds annual reunion
On Oct. 23, the Spence family held its annual Family Reunion at the Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion in Ellaville. Elaine Spence Barwick was in charge of this big event.
A covered dish dinner was served from a table covered with white table cloths. There was a large variety of delicious meats, vegetables, salads, breads, desserts, and drinks.
There were a lot of the Spence family who came from Winder. They came the longest distance. The youngest attending was Levi Grimsley, 18 months, of Webster County. The oldest in attendance was Hershel Spence of Ellaville, who is 90.
There were 40 family members in attendance for this special day.

Ellaville United Methodist Church thanks everyone for supporting its recent Barbecue and Bake Sale.

‘Prayer On the Square’ is Sunday
Ellaville Baptist Church hosts a “Prayer On the Square” rally, focusing on Tuesday’s presidential election, at 6 p.m. Sunday at the newly renovated public square in downtown Ellaville.
All churches throughout the Schley County and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend and to intercede to God for direction on the Presidential election as well as for our
nation, families, churches, schools, public servants, military, veterans and world peace.
The program will include ministers and lay leaders from throughout the area to lead the public prayers, as well as musical selections.
This is open to the public.

Holloways return from enjoyable cruise
Mickey and Stephanie Holloway enjoyed a Pacific Coast cruise recently. They left on Oct. 19 and returned home on Oct. 26.
They flew to Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada where they boarded the Star Princess cruise ship.
Their first stop was the Canadian port at Nanaimo, British Columbia. Then turning southward, their ship docked at the U.S.  ports in Seattle and Astoria, Oregon, and San Francisco and Los Angeles, Calfornia.
While in Seattle they met David Gooding who grew up in Ellaville and now lives in Seattle. They all had lunch at the famous Pike Place Market. David and Stephanie were classmates. Stephanie said that while they were in San Francisco the weather was just right for their long walk along the Embarcadero to Fishermans Wharf where they enjoyed bread bowls with fresh clam chowder.
Their trip concluded in Los Angeles. Before boarding their plane for the five-hour flight back to Georgia, they had dinner at a Persian restaurant, and returned home about midnight.

Update on Schley County Family  Connection
John Greene has reported some updates on special projects that he and the Family Connection have been accomplishing.
John has submitted a grant application for the Schley County Community Foundation to purchase $5,000 of playground equipment for the new playground that will be in the Ellaville/Schley County Recreational Complex. Funds will accompany approximately $16,000 in donations.
John has submitted a grant application for Students Against Destructive Decisions at Schley County Middle-/High School in the amount of $5,000 to promote prevention and safety programs.
He’s working on a grant application for the Ellaville Senior Citizens Center in the amount of $2,500 to provide transportation, meals, and day trips throughout the area.
John purchased supplies and coordinated activities with SADD for the Red Ribbon Week at Schley County Middle/High School.
John attended Schley County Certified Literate Community Advisory Committee meeting recently. Lashonda Coleman was introduced as the new assistant vice president of Adult Literacy at South Georgia Technical College.
The GED Center and the GED at the Ellaville City Center both received water damage from an air conditioner leak. The City is waiting for the repair cost and estimates from a local contractor and its insurance company. The current adult education enrollment in Ellaville for GED classes is 16 students.
John attended the attendance protocol meeting at Schley County Elementary School recently. Those that attended were the principals, counselors, truancy officer, Department of Juvenile Justice, Ellaville Police Department, Schley County Sheriff’s  Office, and Schley County Family Connection.
He also attended a Career Technical and Agriculture Education [CTAE] advisory meeting at Schley County Middle/ High School.
He has received 50 combo car seats from the Governor’s Office, which were donated anonymously from a donor in North Georgia. He said that Taylor County has 68 children requesting car seats in Butler, and children in Schley County need eight car seats.
The Schley County Family Connection Collaborative meeting for October was not held. The next meeting will be announced later.
