County Line Methodist Church hosts homecoming
Homecoming was held Oct. 23 at County Line Methodist Church. Sammy Lee gave a heart-warming welcome. The flowers were placed in the church in memory of Faye Heath.
Mark Kinservick was the speaker and he reminded the congregation of the history of the church and how families had held the church together over the years, since 1860. The young people were told of the school house that was on the church site now.
Many memories were brought up and talked about.
Special music was by Brothers of Grace. After the morning service, a lunch of barbecue and Brunswick stew and all the trimmings was served.
After lunch Brothers of Grace sang again in the sanctuary.
Homecoming is always held on the fourth Sunday in October every year.

American Legion Auxiliary honors local veterans
On Nov. 6, the Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion Auxiliary honored local veterans with the annual Veterans Day Dinner.
All the tables had red, white, and blue tablecloths.
Judy McClellon welcomed everyone and asked the blessing. A delicious luncheon was served consisting of ham, chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, pear salad, deviled eggs, rolls, many desserts, coffee and tea.
After lunch a special program started with Lentz Williams giving the invocation. Sharon Wall lead the pledge to the American flag and the Star Spangled Banner.
Special recognition was made to Legion Auxiliary charter members Jacquelyn Dillard, Juliette Terry, and Anne Stevens Whetstone.
Sharon Wall did the draping of the POW-MIA flag. A single white table, the “missing man” table was at the front. Maci Lawhorn lead everyone in to the Missing Man Ceremony.
Judy Gattis lead the Memorial Service for the veterans who had died since November 2015. Lentz Williams closed the with prayer. “Taps” was played.
Entertainment was by Jimmy Melvin and the Shades. The band played and sang ‘50s and ‘60s music and patriotic songs.
At the end all veterans were recognized by their branch of service, standing as their song was played. It ended with everyone singing “God Bless America.”
There were 90 that attended this special event. God bless our veterans and God bless America.

Schley County 4-H’ers attend Junior Conference
Two Schley County 4-H’ers attended the annual Georgia 4-H Junior Conference Nov. 5-6 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton. This event was filled with community service projects, classes, workshops, and just plain fun.
Those attending were Anna Trussell, teen leader, and Lily Grace Harbuck as well as Brenda Welch, Schley County 4-H leader.
Anna also had a teaching role at the conference. She taught four classes on Drone Discovery. The 4-H’ers learned about the use of drones and were shown how to build and fly a drones.
Junior Conference is a statewide event designed for Junior 4-H’ers (sixth through grades) to experience belonging to a group of peers, demonstrating generously through service projects and also providing an opportunity to build leadership skills. There were 965 people from 123 counties in Georgia at Rock Eagle.
One of the outstanding service project is the pop tab collection for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Georgia. This year the Ronald McDonald House of Central Georgia in Augusta was chosen to receive the donation. The Schley County 4-H’ers collected 10 pounds of pop tabs. Statewide, 4-H’ers collected 15,000 pounds of pop tabs for a total donation value of $5,425.
Please help by collecting pop tabs and Schley 4-H will turn them in next year at Junior Conference. You may drop them at the Extension Office here in Ellaville.
