Southland kindergarteners enjoy field trip to Plains’ history

The Southland Academy kindergarten classes recently visited the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm at Archery near Plains. Park Guide Patty Kuehn guided the classes around the farm and shared the story of President Jimmy Carter’s rise to the White House. While there the students built a scarecrow, visited the house Carter grew up in, ground corn, and fed farm animals. They also played games that would have been played when Carter was a young child their age during the Depression. After leaving the farm, the kids went to the Plains Welcome Center and enjoyed a butterfly party sponsored by the Magnolia Garden Club. They learned about butterflies and plants native to our area. Special thanks to Willie Maxwell and Patty Kuehn for another educational field trip. Shown, seated, are Kenzie Stanfield, Ellie Ferguson, Alex Deriso, Anna Beth Brady, Caitlin Kidd; and standing,  Bo Hardin, Hudson Goodin, Addie Harper, Addy Harrod, Clay Hicks, Andrew Smarr, Kynslee Collins, Haddon Collins.
