ATLANTA – With only twelve athletes, and propelled by a dominating performance by Antony DeMott in the Boys 13-14 age group, the Blue Tide scored ninth place out of 16 teams at the Luqman El Amin meet hosted by the City of Atlanta Dolphins.
DeMott, 14, took all the 100-yard distances in the boys 13-14 age group: butterfly (55.95), backstroke (56.74), breastroke (1:06.44), and freestyle (49.48). DeMott would likely have won the 13-14 year-old 50-yard freestyle (22.68), but opted to swim in the Senior division to race the fastest. He placed third. The first place winner was 30 years old.
DeMott races next at the Georgia Senior State Championships.
Alison Bell, 12, continued her string of impressive performances, highlighted by her win in the 11-12 year-old girls’ 50-yard freestyle event (26.82), which would have won the 13-14 age group, and placed sixth in the Senior division. Bell also broke her won Blue Tide age group record in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.91).
All of the Blue Tide team members swam personal best in over half of their events, achieving new time standards: AAA (Antony DeMott), BB (Alison Bell, Caroline Petruska), and B (Lynnsey Bell, Marianna DeTitta).
The Blue Tide offers a free week of training for interested swimmers at the GSW pool Monday through Thursday 4-5pm, and in Albany at the Darton State College pool from 5-6pm. Interested parties can also visit www.georgiabluetide.com or call (229) 924-3863 for more information.
