AMERICUS — Mary Elizabeth Butler McLemore, age 94 of Americus, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. She was born on Jan. 1, 1922, in Wilkinson County, Georgia. She was the youngest child of the late Charles Oscar and Belva Billue Butler of the Nicklesville community. She worked at the Wilkinson County News in Irwinton, Georgia, for many years and moved to Sumter County in the 1980s, where she worked with the Sumter County School System as a paraprofessional until her retirement. Mrs. McLemore was a member of Central Baptist Church in Americus, where she enjoyed being a member of the Kathleen Gardner Open Arms Sunday School Class and the Multi-Focus Mission Group. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, and food preservation until her health prevented her from continuing those activities.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. There will be a graveside service at 3 p.m. in Irwinton at the Big Sandy Baptist Church Cemetery with Sammy Curry officiating. Pallbearers include Justin Freeman, Joe Allen, Conner Dunford, Robert Dunford, and Mark Harbuck. Donations may be made in her memory to Gideon International, P.O. Box 722, Americus GA  31709.

Survivors include a son, Sammie (Evelyn) Curry of Plains; a daughter, Marie (Randy) Warbington of Ball Ground; two stepdaughters, Sonja McLemore Wright of Rochelle and Bonita McLemore (Charles) Morton of Leesburg. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. McLemore Sr.; an infant son, Jerry Curry and a stepson, Walter A. McLemore Jr.
