The Schley County Wildcats boys’ basketball team has seen some exciting improvements this season under the direction of second-year head coach, Ernest Scott.
To date, the team has accrued a 6-2 record for 2016.
Since the Times-Recorder last reported on the Wildcats, the team has gone on to earn an exciting 82-78 victory on Dec. 3 over the Marion County Eagles in a tight up-and-down tilt. Following that victory, the Wildcats stifled a late rally on Dec. 6 from the Brookstone Cougars to snag a 47-44 win. The ‘Cats suffered their first loss of the season on Dec. 10 in a road tilt against the Central (Talbotton) Hawks that ended in the hosts going on an overtime run and cinching a 59-46 victory.
The ‘Cats then opened a three-game home stand on Dec. 13, hosting the Manchester Blue Devils. Schley came back from a fourth-quarter deficit to leave with a 56-55 victory. The Schley squad then gave the Marion Eagles the chance to even the score, which the longtime rivals did, eking out a 66-63 win over their hosts. Schley then continued their home stint with a non-region match-up against the Miller County Pirates. The Wildcats grabbed an early lead before defeating the Pirates 73-61.
From there, the Wildcats took a hard-earned holiday break.
Schley’s boys will return to action on Dec. 28, traveling to Macon to participate in the Tatnall Square Academy (TSA) Christmas Tournament. The Wildcats will battle the TSA Trojans on the opening day of the tourney before taking on the Stratford Academy Eagles on day two. The Wildcats will end the tournament with a tilt against the Chattanooga Christian Chargers on Dec. 30.
The Schley crew will return to Region 4-A action on Jan. 3, traveling to Greenville to take on the Greenville High School Patriots.
