AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern men’s soccer team was acknowledged by the Peach Belt Conference earlier this week as the 2016 Team Sportsmanship Award recipient.
The Peach Belt presents one such award for each of its 15 championship sports, as voted on by the other teams in each particular sport.
This is the fifth straight year that the men’s soccer team has garnered the honor since the award’s inception in 2008-09.
This continues GSW’s strong reputation for sportsmanship as the department has now won 17 team sportsmanship awards, second-most in the PBC.
The PBC Sportsmanship Award program presents an award following each championship season to the team in that sport that best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree of integrity, character and class. Points are awarded based on how each team finished in the voting and in June, the institution with the highest totals will receive the ‘PBC Institution of the Year Sportsmanship Award.’
The league’s Senior Administrators oversee the program.
