My imaginary cousin, Willie Wally Wishum, is known to get a little confused at times. For example, he once sold his car for gas money. And, recently, he won a trip to Los Angeles in a radio contest. Willie called a travel agent and asked, “Can you tell me, how long it takes to fly from Atlanta to Los Angeles?”
The lady on the phone said, “Just one moment. . .” Willie thanked her and hung up, exclaiming, “Wow, that’s fast!”
Yes, it is. And it’s amazing how many significant events can happen in just a moment.
It only took a moment for Jesus to end 12 years of pain and emotional distress for an outcast woman. “Take heart, daughter,’ he said, ‘your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was healed from that moment” (Matthew 9:22).
Remembering Jesus’ prediction, it only took a moment for Peter to realize the horror of his guilt in denying his Lord. “Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow” (John 18:27).
When Paul recounted his conversion, he remembered how it only took a moment for the Lord to open his eyes. “And at that very moment I was able to see him” (Acts 22:13).
So much can happen in just a moment – healing, faith, salvation. The greatest of life’s moments often come in an instant. Each day, we are given 1,440 minutes – each an opportunity for something significant.
Most of those moments pass routinely. It’s unrealistic to expect something extraordinary to happen in every minute. But what about just one per day? As a new year dawns, what if we resolved to make the most of just one minute every day! What might result if we chose just one time teach day to make our Magnificent Moment?
It only takes a moment to decide to follow Christ. Only a moment to pray passionately for someone in need. Or read an inspiring Scripture. Just a moment to remind a spouse or a child of your love for him or to send an encouraging note to a friend.
Just one Magnificent Moment can make a difference. And someday soon, in just a moment, all the opportunities on this earth will be gone.
Let’s make the most of the moments while we have them. Take this moment to put Magnificent Moment on your calendar to remind you every day of 2017.
