AMERICUS — The work of a family caregiver is difficult and can be relentless. Unfortunately, awareness for caregiver needs and support often falls short.
Americus Mayor Barry Blount helped remedy that earlier this month as he – in partnership with the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving (RCI) and in conjunction with a national designation – signed a city proclamation marking November 2016 as National Family Caregivers Month in Americus, Georgia. The signing was held Nov. 14 at City Hall.
“Caregivers reflect family and community life at its best,” a portion of the proclamation read. “They are among the City of Americus’ most important natural resources.”
On hand for the signing with Mayor Blount were Georgia Southwestern Interim President Charles Patterson, with RCI Executive Director Leisa Easom, RCI Data Manager Kelly Wang, RCI Program Support Specialist Miranda Thomas, and RCI Senior Administrative Assistant Pam Hudson.
“The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving is appreciative that Mayor Blount recognizes the hard work of caregivers who also give selflessly of their time,” said Easom. “The support of local leaders helps caregiver advocates everywhere.”
