PLAINS — Mrs. Susie Mae Everett Stephens, age 99, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, of natural causes, at Sumter Retirement Village in Plains, Ga.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Harmony Cemetery in Richland, with Rev. Robert Orr officiating.

Visitation was held at 2:30 p.m., prior to the funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Stephens was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Webster County, Ga., a daughter of the late James William Everett and Bertha Mae Witt Everett. She was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern College and was a retired school teacher of 40-plus years, having taught at Union School in Center Point, Webster County Schools, and Greenfield Academy.

She was a member of Richland First Baptist Church in Richland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard B. Stephens; and by five brothers: William Lawrence Everett, James T. Everett “J.T.”, Edward C. Everett “Eck”, Clarence C. Everett “Coley”, and Oliver C. Everett “Ott”.

She is survived by one sister, Louise E. Smith of Plains; and numerous nieces and nephews.
