Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 38 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to Westside Drive to a report of a dog house on fire with dogs inside. The dogs were safely removed with no injuries. The burning dog house, constructed of wood pallets, was extinguished.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Ashby and Mayo streets.
• Firefighters responded to a burn complaint on U.S. Highway 280 West. They found someone burning a small brush pile. They extinguished it and advised that the city has a no-burn policy.
• Firefighters responded to East Forsyth and North Lee streets.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Prince and Forsyth streets.
• Firefighters responded to Copperhill Circle to a report of smoke/burning smell. They determined that the odor was electrical in nature and coming from the kitchen. Using the thermal imaging, they found the problem was a leaking water heater.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke detector activation on South Lee Street. There were no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Lee Street. The alarm system was experiencing problems.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to Crawford Street to a report of power lines down. They found a downed power line blocking the drive thru at Wendy’s. They blocked traffic, removed the line and notified AT&T.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Mayo and East Forsyth streets.
• Firefighters responded to Carter Street to a report of a puppy with its head caught in a fence. They rescued the puppy.
• Firefighters responded to Davenport Street to a complaint of an illegal burn. They found a small barrel in the backyard. The owner told them he had a killed a snake and was burning it. He was advised of the City’s no-burn policy.
