AMERICUS — Mary Elizabeth Harrell, age 94, of 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, Ga., passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Magnolia Manor in Americus, Ga. A commitment service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at the Rostrum of Andersonville National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, in the chapel of Aldridge Funeral Services.

Mary Elizabeth Harrell was born Nov. 26, 1922, in Bainbridge, Ga. Elizabeth enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. She grew up in the country, which allowed her to develop a deep appreciation for tending to her flowers. In her spare time she walked with her good friend Evelyn Smith. They shared many conversations and good times with one another. Her family enjoyed her infectious smile, keen sense of humor, and childhood stories, especially the “Bull Story.” She was an excellent cook! Her family and friends enjoyed many of her delicious meals, including her “Granny Biscuits.” Her greatest love was of Jesus Christ and her favorite book was the Bible. She also had a passion for singing and she shared that passion at several family reunions.

Elizabeth worked for Manhattan Shirt Co. She also worked many years as a day care teacher for Mothers Morning Out at First Baptist Church and Kids’ World. She has been a member of First Baptist Church since 1953. She also attended Fellowship Baptist Church with her daughter Faye. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Strickland; her mother, Katie Missouri Strickland; her spouse, Welton Lewis Harrell; five brothers, Monroe Tharpe, Marvin Strickland, Edward Strickland, Frank Strickland, Dan Strickland; two sisters, Louise Knighton, Catherine Blount; and one daughter, Linda McCullough. She is survived by one daughter, Faye H. Koppenaal (Gary) of Americus, Ga.; four grandchildren, Lynn Elizabeth Jones, Stacy F. Lubniewski, Susan C. Henry, Ellie Fay Hayes; and six great-grandchildren, Michael Hayes, Chandler Henry, Nathan Fortin, Lindsey Jones, Madeline Elizabeth Lubniewski, and Brianna Elizabeth Swartz.
