ATHENS — Mrs. Ruth M. Brazil passed away quietly and peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Piedmont Regional Hospital in Athens, GA.

 

Funeral services are planned for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with the Rev. Hugh Harbort and the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Burial is to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends between the hours of 3 and 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Hancock Funeral Home.

Born in Irwinville, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George McGuire and Lois Johnson McGuire. She was a retired seamstress, having worked at Manhattan Shirt Co.

She volunteered for 18 years with the local hospice association, having served the very first hospice patient in Sumter County.

Mrs. Brazil, the widow of Carl Kite and Estrell Brazil, was preceded in death by her daughter Bonnie C. Johnson, and is survived by her children: Larry Chitwood, Sammy Chitwood, Brenda C. Cosby, Danny Kite, Gail Brazil, and Bobby Kite. Mrs. Brazil is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

All who knew and loved Mrs. Brazil mourn their loss as they were blessed by her love and devotion to her God, her family, and anyone she met.
