AMERICUS — Chefs, cooks, and the Average Joe are invited to participate in the first Chili Crawl on Friday, Feb. 3, in downtown Americus. This cook-off is being sponsored by Americus Main Street as a way to increase activity in the downtown area.

Each entrant is encouraged to bring 5 gallons of chili which will enable them to serve over 300 tasters. Chili must be cooked from scratch at home or in your restaurant and brought on site the day of the cook-off.

Each chili stop will have scorecards for tasters to judge all the different chilies on its appearance, taste, and texture. A “People’s Choice” Traveling Trophy will be awarded to the best chili chef to display/hold onto for approximately one year. Americus Main Street will be giving away Downtown Dollar prizes to the top three chili winners! Prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st place, $100 in downtown dollars and traveling trophy to display at the winning location; 2nd place, $50 in downtown dollars; and 3rd place, $25 in downtown dollars!

This event is free and open to the public. Chefs will begin setup at 3 p.m. and tasting will begin at 5 p.m. This event will be occurring during First Friday, from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 3. First Friday continues to grow each month with new and exciting things happening, for example, the Chili Cook-Off.
