ASHS wrestling takes fourth at region sectionals

The Americus-Sumter High School Panthers wrestling team took part in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Region 1-AAAA Traditional Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 27-28.
Among the eight teams in Region 1-AAAA, the ASHS team earned a fourth-place finish in the tourney with 105 points.
Cairo High School was the overall winner with 191 points, followed by Shaw High School with 146.
Columbus High School narrowly edged the ASHS team with 114 points in the meet.
Hardaway High School gave the Panthers a tight run, earning fifth place with 102 points, followed by Northside High, Carver High, and Westover High, respectively.
The Panthers had seven individual team members place in the tournament.
ASHS’ Quendarious Hightower earned a second-place finish in the 113-pound weight class. Montrellis Wilson took first place in the 132-pount weight class. Trayvious Brown and Calvin Wright III earned fourth-place honors in the 138 and 145-pound divisions, respectively. AJ Stokes took a first-place finish in the 152-pound weight class while Henry Wilson, Jr. finished third in the 170-pound division. Finally, Tendric Engram finished second in the 195-pound weight class.
