ELLAVILLE, Ga. — Mr. Joseph S. Eason Sr., age 92, of Ellaville, Ga., died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Americus, Ga. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Hopewell United Methodist Church with burial followinh in the church cemetery. The Rev. Brooks Partain and Mr. Tommy Barnes officiated.

Mr. Eason was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Schley County, Ga., the son of the late Joseph Alton Eason and Josephine DeVane Eason. He was a farmer and executive director of ASCS for Schley County and Taylor County. Mr. Eason was very active in the community, serving on the Schley County Voter Registration Board, the Schley County Industrial Board and as past chairman of Middle Flint Regional Development Center. He was a member of the American Legion Post 191, the Lions Club, the Masons, and the Ellaville-Schley County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Eason was also a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Gill and husband Dewey of Ellaville, Judy McClellan and husband Bill of Ellaville; two sons, Smitty Eason and wife Linda of Americus, Ga., Al Eason of Ellaville; two sisters, Josephine Johnston and husband Harold of Milner, Ga., Jewell Parker of Americus, Ga. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Mindy Morris and husband Stephen, Frankie Lamberth and wife Geneva, Eric McClellan, Ashley Bunch and husband Robert, Casey Keese and husband David, Jody Eason and wife Jen, Erica Jones and husband Brad, Jessie Eason, and Jenna Eason. Fourteen great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean Eason.

Pallbearers included Frankie Lamberth, Jody Eason, Robert Bunch, Stephen Morris, Gary Parker, and Tony Eason. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home.
