AMERICUS — After a violent storm struck Southwest Georgia, the Americus Lions Club sought out to give back, lend a hand and help lift a people struggling to recover.
Willie Cooper, District Governor of the Lions Club, led the effort to secure a donation that would help immediately those who were suffering from no power, no homesand little water.
Cooper said, “It is the purpose of the Lions Club to give service and help those in need, so I enlisted our club to reach out and provide 1,000 hygiene kits to some of the least of these among us – the homeless. We delivered these kits in hopes to help give people some peace and relief in knowing that others are thinking about them.”
Cooper presented the hygiene kits to Albany Lions Club member, Roger Housman and employees of the Community Credit Union.
As Lions District Governor, Cooper covers all of Southwest Georgia from north of Thomaston to the Florida line. He helps cover the nee
ds of each Lions Club in his area and enlists other Lion Club members to help in areas close to them that need help.
“I continue to work with local church and government officials in Albany to assess their needs and give help,” he said.
The Lions Club is known for their work to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding.
