Jacquelyn Dillard celebrates birthday
On Feb. 10, Jacquelyn Dillard was honored by her daughter, daughter-in-law and her granddaughters with a special girls night out on Friday and Saturday to celebrate Jacquelyn’s 89th birthday.
They all met at Jolynn Morris’s lake house on Lake Harding on Friday. That night they all had dinner at the Big Eddy Club in Columbus and enjoyed the family all together as well as the food.
On Saturday morning relaxed around the lake house before having lunch in Columbus. They all returned home Saturday afternoon.
What a great time it was for Jacquelyn to celebrate birthday with all of her girls. Those attending were Jolynn Dillard Morris, Chelsey Smith, Halley Hancock, Caitlin Ballard, Donna Dillard, Payton Dillard and the guest of honor, Jacquelyn Dillard.

Schley Community Foundation receives grant
The Schley Community Foundation has received a $5,000 grant to help them complete the playground at the Ellaville-Schley County Recreation Department.
This was a grant from the Flint Energies Foundation, from Operation Round-Up to help with safety, health and education needs in 16 counties. This program is funded by voluntary contributions and are tax deductible.
Funds are still being collected for the playground equipment. Gifts to the foundation are tax deductible.

Schley tax commissioner attends conference
On Feb. 8, Pam Register, Schley County tax commissioner attended the South Georgia Conference for Tax Commissioners and Staff in Tifton. The conference was hosted by Tift County Tax Commissioner Chad Alexander.
Tax commissioners and their staff from all around the South Georgia area were represented at the meeting. Various subjects were discussed regarding the Tax Offices. A speaker with the Motor Vehicle Division also spoke, as did a representative from the Tift County Assessors’ Office and an attorney from Atlanta.
A luncheon was served by the Delinquent Tax Service of Monroe.

Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society holds annual Dinner Party
At 7 p.m. Feb. 18, the Ellaville-Schley County Historical Society held its annual Dinner Party at the Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion in Ellaville. President Nancy McMath Young welcomed everyone and asked the Rev. Mark Kinservik to ask the blessing.
A delicious dinner was served consisting of shrimp and grits, pork tenderloin, asparagus casserole, green salad, yeast rolls, two desserts, coffee and tea.
The dining tables were covered with cream-colored linen tablecloths with lovely center pieces.
After dinner the president spoke on different activities that the historical society has planned. She asked everyone to please help with getting the new history book updated.
She introduced the guest speaker, Sammy Lee, who spoke on wars, the Great Depression, World War II and some things about himself and his family. He was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the president.
As everyone entered they were all given a number, and the door prize was drawn from each table, and the winner at each table won the lovely center piece that table. Winners were Martha Harrison, John Greene, Anne Dillard, Lesley Holloway, and Donna Dillard.
