‘First Friday’ to feature Shrek theme

AMERICUS — On Friday, March 3, Americus will hold its monthly “First Friday” downtown-wide open house. The theme for this month’s First Friday is Shrek. This theme is in support of the Sumter Players’ upcoming production Shrek the Musical to be held March 9-12 at the historic Rylander Theatre. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with most shops and businesses staying open until 8 p.m. “First Friday After Dark” continues the festivities into the night after 8 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come experience the city’s art, music, food, wares, and crafts. The Americus Trolley will provide attendees transportation throughout downtown. The trolley will make a loop of the event, and is provided by the City of Americus free of charge. All activities, exhibits, and performances are free of charge. Local artwork will be on display throughout downtown. Visitors to Mobile Glass Blowing Studios will be able to enjoy live music, a sculpting of a glass Shrek, and glassblowing of several green glass items. The Americus Center for the Arts invites everyone to come in and be a part of their art show and demonstrations and free Shrek coloring for kids! The historic Rylander Theatre box office will be open for purchasing tickets to Shrek the Musical.
Eat, drink, and listen to some great live music Friday night in downtown Americus. JJ’s Wings & Things, Bittersweet Bookstore & Coffeehouse, Prestige Tax & Consulting, and Café Campesino will all have live music along with tasty food, drinks, and a Shrek atmosphere.
Attendees can also take advantage of great shopping deals downtown on Friday night. Center Stage Market, The Maze, the Kinnebrew Co., Allie’s Boutique & More, Fabulous Feet Dance Studio, and Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio will be open late, all offering something special in the form of discounts, samples, and Shrek-themed entertainment for customers.
Ticket sales for Americus Hot Glass Craft Beer Festival, to be hosted Saturday, April 8 in downtown Americus, will go on sale this Friday during “First Friday” at the following locations: Mobile Glassblowing Studios, Center Stage Market, Americus Center for the Arts, The Look Salon Studio, Wolf Creek, and the Americus Main Street office in downtown.
