GSW Lady ‘Canes sweep Brewton-Parker

AMERICUS – The Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) Lady Hurricanes softball team picked up two more wins on Friday afternoon after beating Brewton-Parker in their doubleheader at Lady ‘Canes Field.
The second game of the afternoon saw GSW pitcher, Brittany Childs, pick up her fifth win of the season.
In game one, the Lady ‘Canes scored the first of their runs in the bottom of the first when Allee Denney singled to right center, bringing Mikela Barlow home. Brewton-Parker tied the game in the top of the fourth with a solo home run.
The next two and a half innings went scoreless until Sabrina Sieber hit a walk-off single to score Marylen Kennedy and win the game after GSW’s defense held off Brewton-Parker.

Hayley Tierce went two-for-three at the plate.
GSW finished with six hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Hayley Tierce (W, 1-0) pitched seven innings, faced 28 batters, allowed five hits, one run, walked two batters, and struck out four.
It was deja-vu in Game two when GSW put the first run on the board again in the first inning as Denney doubled to center field scoring Barlow.
Brewton-Parker had a huge third inning, scoring seven runs and getting six hits including a grand slam four-run homer.
The Lady ‘Canes retaliated in the bottom of the third with a rally that netted the team seven hits and eight runs. Rebekah Davis started the inning with a double. Joshlyn Martin hit a single to center field, giving Davis time to make her way home. Denney added another double, pushing Martin moved to third base. Both Denney and Martin advanced on a wild pitch and Hannah McCain drew a walk.
Graysen Sanders singled to left field scoring Denney and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brittany Childs reached on a fielder’s choice and Sieber singled to left field to score McCain.
Sanders scored off a wild pitch. Childs scored off a balk and Sieber scored off a single from Tierce.
Brewton-Parker scored again in the fourth to get their eighth run.
Tierce homered in the fifth to give the Lady ‘Canes their tenth run.
GSW finished with 12 hits, 10 runs, and seven RBIs.
Sanders went three-for-three at the plate. Tierce, Martin, and Denney were two-for-four.
Shannon Gibson pitched 2.2 innings, faced 16 batters, gave up six hits, seven runs, walked two and struck out one.
Brittany Childs (W, 5-2) pitched 4.1 innings, faced 17 batters, scattered five hits, one run, walked none and struck out four.
The Lady ‘Canes are away on March 1 to play West Georgia in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
