From left are Mike Tracy, chief of Georgia Southwestern State University Police; Capt. Al Ross of the Americus Police Department; Maj. Richard McCorkle of the Americus Police Department; NASCAR driver Joey Gase; and Americus Police Chief Mark Scott. Gase met with the local officials Thursday at the Georgia Department of Driver Services Henry County Service Center in Locust Grove. Gase has been a strong proponent of organ donation following the sudden death of his mother in 2011, when he chose to donate her organs and tissues. Gace is honoring Jody Smith, a GSW police officer who was killed in the line of duty here in December 2016. Gace’s LifeLink racecar, number 52, has a back panel with Smith’s photo and ‘Handprints of Hope.’
