Southland Academy hosted its very first Lower School Speech Contest for grades third graders on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Each third grader met the requirements for the speech assignment, presented their speeches to their classmates, and completed the semi-final round of the competition. Brianna Brown, daughter of  Lisa Slaton and Jerry Brown, won 1st place with ‘Witches.’ Cade Futch, son of Jonathan and Ashley Futch, earned 2nd place with ‘Excuses.’ Laura Cate Harris, daughter of Lee Harris, received 3rd place with ‘Travel, Travel, Travel.’ Students receiving Honorable Mention are Bryant Roland, Sydnee Kobs, Luke McKie, and Amelia Kinnebrew.
