SAVANNAH — Fanny “Fan” Rogers Wilcox, 78, passed away on March 4, 2017, at Hospice Savannah in Savannah, Ga. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, in the Buena Vista Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Roe and the Rev. Jerry Akin officiating.

Fanny Rogers Wilcox was born on Dec. 29, 1939, to the late Oscar and Christine Wilcox in Columbus, Georgia. Since her father was a member of the Army Air Corps, which later became the United States Air Force, Fan was raised in many locations, including California and Okinawa. She was a graduate of Biloxi Central High School, Biloxi, Mississippi, and later received her bachelor of arts degree from Asbury College, Wilmore, Kentucky. She later received her master of arts degree from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and then had an add-on in visual disabilities from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. She taught French and English at Jordan High School in Columbus, and then taught the same two subjects at the Georgia Academy of the Blind in Macon. Fan then became an itinerant teacher for the blind/visually impaired in Athens, Columbus, and DeKalb County. After retirement in 1992, she lived in Blairsville, Buena Vista, and Americus.

Before and after retirement, Fan traveled with a group of friends to various interesting places, including Canada, California, New England, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, Egypt, Australia, and New Zealand.

Fan is survived by many cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Buena Vista United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 449, Buena Vista GA 31803 or to Americus First United Methodist Church, 200 S. Lee St., Americus GA 31709.
