Authority Meeting: The regular monthly meeting of the Americus-Sumter County Payroll Development Authority scheduled for March 13 has been cancelled. The Authority holds its annual retreat beginning at 9 a.m. March 10 and will end no later than 4 p.m. at the cabin of William S. Harris, on Old Andersonville Road. The entrance is located just past 415 Old Andersonville Road, and will be marked with entryway signage. The meeting is open to the public.

Jazz Night: The Americus Sumter Arts Council hosts the fourth annual Jazz Night from 6-9 p.m. March 11 at the Americus Center for the Arts, featuring Mark Laughlin and the Georgia Southwestern State University Jazz Ensemble, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar, a raffle, demonstrations of glass blowing and ceramics, and a silent auction. 4-H Camp: Sumter County 4-H camp registration has begun. All 5th – 12th grade youth are invited to register for the 2017 Georgia 4-H camping season. Fifth & sixth graders will attend summer Cloverleaf Camp July 3-7 at Fortson 4-H Center in Hampton. 4-H’ers will enjoy a fun week of zip line and rock climbing wall, archery, canoeing, swimming, water games and sports. In addition, 4-H’ers will travel off-center to Stone Mountain Park, White Water Theme Park and Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Scholarships, fundraisers, and payment plans are available. Faith Clinic: Sumter Faith Clinic is a non-profit organization directed at meeting the spiritual and health care needs of residents of Sumter County who do not have health insurance or an affordable means to health care. Services include basic, non-emergent medical care of acute conditions as well as treatment of some chronic conditions. Services are delivered by volunteers. The clinic is located at 127 S. Jackson St. next to First Presbyterian Church. Hours of operation are 6-9 p.m. Mondays and 1-5 p.m. Thursdays.

Attention Solid Waste Generators: The City of Americus has implemented a fats, oils, and grease (FOG) program as directed in the city’s Commercial Pretreatment Ordinance. This program is an environmental program designed to protect the sanitary sewer system and wastewater treatment plants from commercial waste. Commercial waste is defined as nontoxic, nonhazardous liquid wastewater containing fats, oil, grease, and food scraps generated by a food operation or institutional food facility, and any oil waste residue produced from vehicle maintenance or car washing. Facilities that create this waste are called Commercial Waste Generators (CWG). Current Federal, state and local provisions mandates the City to address these issues. Faith Clinic: Sumter Faith Clinic is a non-profit organization directed at meeting the spiritual and health care needs of residents of Sumter County who do not have health insurance or an affordable means to health care. Services include basic, non-emergent medical care of acute conditions as well as treatment of some chronic conditions. Services are delivered by volunteers. The clinic is located at 127 S. Jackson St. next to First Presbyterian Church. Hours of operation are 6-9 p.m. Mondays and 1-5 p.m. Thursdays.

Water Restrictions: The City of Americus has implemented the following water restrictions, established by the State Environmental Protection Division. Outdoor water use for the purpose of planting, growing, managing, or maintaining ground cover, trees, shrubs, or other plants is allowed daily, but limited to between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. Outdoor water use for any purposes other than watering of plants, such as power washing or residential car washing, is limited to an odd/even address watering schedule.
