AMERICUS — Police are still investigating a weekend shooting.
According to a report from the Americus Police Department, police responded to an aggravated assault at 7 p.m. Saturday in the area of Reddick Drive where they found a large crowd of people standing around. A wounded man, later identified as D’Anthony Chambliss, 20, of 201 Tom Hall Circle, Americus, was lying on the ground and was being cared for by bystanders. Gold Star EMS arrived to give aid to the victim.
According to the report, a witness at the scene told police she was sitting on her porch when she saw a white Chevrolet Impala drive into the area where it parked on the curb near her apartment. She said she saw a black male get out of the car with a black handgun in his hand. The witness said she took her children inside and returned to her porch, when she saw the man, whom she identified as Dontrell Jordan, 22, of 603 Lewis Lowe Court, Americus, standing in the driveway holding the gun. Jordan and Chambliss became involved in a verbal altercation and Jordan pointed the gun at Chambliss’ face. The witness said the two men began struggling and the gun was fired, striking Chambliss in the area of his waist line. She told police that Jordan drove away from the scene.
The incident was video-recorded on a smartphone by another witness. The video shows a woman wearing a white dress entering the scene just before the gun shot, according to the police report.
The incident has been turned over to the criminal investigations division of the Americus Police Department.
The suspect, Jordan, is still at large. He is described as a black male, 5’9” in height, weighing approximately 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white tank top t-shirt and blue basketball shorts. Warrants have been issued for Jordan on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possibly other charges. According to police, a bullet went inside a nearby residence but no one was injured inside. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Dontrell Jordan, is asked to call the criminal investigations division at 229-924-4550, the anonymous tip line at 229-924-4102 or 9-1-1.
Chambliss was immediately airlifted to a Macon trauma center where he was listed in stable condition.
